The Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA) is dedicated to bringing rejuvenated passenger and freight rail service to Northeast Indiana. We believe that our transportation system should include rail, highway, and air modalities. Benefits to the citizens of northeast Indiana will include a stronger economy, enhanced security, a cleaner environment, and a better quality of life.
The mission of NIPRA is to work with local elected, appointed and business leaders in this region to promote the return of passenger rail service to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Specifically, the organization hopes to showcase the refurbished Baker Street Train Station and the enormous citizen output that has been generated to support passenger train service in and out of Fort Wayne.
NIPRA continues to believe that Indiana should work with surrounding states to support the Midwest rail initiative. That initiative will eventually link nine Midwestern states with a passenger and freight rail network that will provide substantial economic benefits for Fort Wayne and Northeastern Indiana. It is estimated that some 4,500 full-time permanent jobs could be generated in Indiana with the completion of a this type of rail network.
