The NIPRA newsletter, Passenger Rail Resurgence in the U.S., for March 2014 focuses heavily on rail planning and prospects for Texas. Note that Texas transportation officials are saying that a high speed line from San Antonio to Dallas (275 miles) can operate without subsidy, based on their projections.

The distance from Chicago through Fort Wayne to Columbus is 300 miles. Similarly, the Northern Indiana / Ohio Passenger Rail Corridor Feasibility Study & Business Plan Executive-Summary-for-Press-Release_62813_Final
proposes a passenger rail corridor which will carry 2 million passengers per year and operate at a profit.
